Well this year has just flown by hasn't it. This year I've been working on flowers in watercolour- I just love doing the raindrops, been to an oils tutorial and worked more with them and recently been back to revisist pastels as its been a while since i used them. I've also finally done some sculpture with the stone kit my son bought me last xmas. I did a lovely snail which sits on the outside table - very appropriate for this garden which seems like the snails version of McDonalds. Busy wrapping christams presents and writing cards at the moment and it'l be time to switch on the outside lights and get holly, fir and ivy cut for indoors soon. I love christmas and now we have lots of grandchildren I can have fun making things with them. They've inherited my love of art and are always happy to fetch some materails out of the studio ( its a bit cold in there at the moment) and have a play at creating something new. perhaps next year I should set up a Kids Gallery and add their artwork. Hmnn that might be fun and i know they'd love it!

Well, some great news this month with christmas approaching. Here's a way to boost your income. An artist colleague, Richard F Barber has come up with a fantastic idea. Have you ever wanted to be an art dealer but but the expenses of storage and premises put you off? Well Richard and I offering 25% commission to anyone selling on one of our works and sharing the idea among other artists so that you have a whole catalogue of online paintings to show anyone you think maybe interested in purchasing. Once they place the order as usual and it is accepted you email with their details and the name of the painting. As soon as their payment clears the 25% commission will be transferred to your paypal account. I'm offering the same deal so you've currently two galleries full of works to show. You can find Richard F Barbers site on my links page - Link number 8. Happy Selling.

I've been having a spell back on watercolours and have done a couple of flower ones I'm really pleased with.I seem to have found some of the lightness tahat has so far eluded me. As a contrast I'm also working on a rose in oils - 20 x 20 inches and a huge sunset over the sea - its 60 x 30 inches and i've done it portrait style so i have to hang it from the studio ceiling to work on the lower half :) Its almost complete - just the final touches of sun on the sea and foam on the shoreline - i think.. i have this habit of thinking its nearly done and then making major changes..its why a spell with watercolours again has been good for me - you simply can't do that with them. Well - I've attended an oil class this month which has given some formation to my oil works - so far i've been working blind so to speak, with the help of the net and books. To have a tutor has saved me much tme on simple errors that took only minutes to point me in the right direction instead of the hours I've spent trying to work it out. So expect a few more oils to come over the next months... I've finally finished the big sunset - it took a number of directions before I was pleased with the finished result. At 30 inches wide and 60 inches high its hanging inb my dining room where its acheived many positive comments - its certainly a work to attract attention! Its now on the website here under Beach at Sunset.

I've been asked to do a brief demo for a ladies group in April, when I said yes it seemed ages to go then.. now its coming up fast and i can't decide what to do - it'll be for about an hour, and I need to be able to do something on an easel really so they can see it in progress. I would like to take the waxes as they are such fun, dry almost instantly so no worries about wet paint! but they need a flat surface and then I don't think everyone will be able to see. I'll have to find out the set up - see if we could arrange chairs round a table. If not maybe I'll take oil pastels or soft pastels, when there isn't long there's no time to wait for paint to dry so something quick is needed. I'll have a base done , usually I do several in stages so people can see the process, and then just finish the main one. I've just bought some caran d'ache coloured pencils, these are water soluble so can also be used as paint. They are fun too - I think this morning ( Sunday 17th) I might have a go with them at the February forum challenge. Its buildings that would not usually be considered for a painting - no pretty houses..I'm going to do the water tower thats at the back of my garden.

End of month - well, always my thoughts turn to a review of year. Its been a good year- had a few sales so that gives me more to spend on materials and keeps my learning about new ideas going. My husband wonders where it will stop sometimes : ) but while there's art materials out there that I've not used I'll keep going... I just love new things and the more i have the more i mix and match with the materials i have and I think this ultimately benefits my Art. I've had a whole year in Picturecraft Gallery which has been fun and let my work be seen by different buyers to the usual internet ones. Next year I think I'll concentrate on websales more. I've joined a couple of new multi artists websites this year - Affordable British Arts , Artbuyweb and The Artists Web, and have had some good viewing figures from them so that looks promising. I used to sell via Mini Gallery but sadly, although I was one of the founder members and organised the 2nd Minigallery exhibition last year they decided that several of us Original members were not to be allowed to renew our memberships. No discussions, just an " out" :( so I hope that the new galleries are going to fill the sales gap for me..and of course I'm always happy to sell via this website. If anyone wants a more detailed view of any of the artworks I'm always happy to supply them via email. the artsforum has been doing well, we've had lots of new members and its a great place for sharing ideas and opportunities and also news of sales, that cheers everyone up. So - thanks for 2007, another year past, another year surviving the cancer : )and A happy, healthy and wealthy new year to everybody, here's to 2008!

I've spent most of the last month playing and expanding my use of the encaustic waxes. I've bought some metallic interference mediums in acrylic paint and these give a lovely light touch, letting the colours of the wax show through. You can see use of these in Sunrise off Cromer Beach. This has been framed by a member of my art forum, who has just started a framing business, and also does postal framing, made to measure. It looks superb now its framed as the colours he chose really set it off. Later in the month I'm doing an oil painting day along with some local artist friends, the day being hosted by another member of the art forum. Its good to use contacts like this and all help each other and the Forum provides an excellent point of contact. For anyone interested in looking through or joining the link direct to the forum is on the home page, top left. Everyone is welcome, artist or non artist - we like to help, advise and chat - and not just about art. Art can be a lonely profession and using the internet to contact people breaks up the day. I've had some super art advice from other member artists when I've bought new materials and am unsure of how to use them. I've also been asked by search press books to review art books and these reviews can be found on the Book Review section of the forum. Just treated myself to some brushes from excellent brush site Rosemary & co, easy to order and quick efficient service. Acrylics are hard on brushes - or at least the way I use them... and so after a while its not possible to get a nice sharp line with them. I never throw old brushes away though - but take the scissors to them and customise for future use. I hate waste.

well, its been a bit of a slow summer painting wise.. rather than do new work I've been spending a lot of time on new techniques, especially with the encaustic paints which are so exciting to use. A friend came over one day during summer and we spent time playing with them and learning some of what we can do with them. the online competition is finally over - we have four well deserved prizewinners, and I'm very grateful to all who entered. The first prize winner donated his money to the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, seems we artists all help various charities! we have had a few paintings donated for auction and once we have a final total raised I'll put it on the web and also let the local press know - they very kindly did an article about me and the competition to help publicise it. I've decided to have a break from charity work and spend time on my own, but then a friend phoned to ask if I'd do a demo for a local group and the word yes was out of my mouth before I could think. Well - its not til next April and it will be fun, I really enjoyed the last one. Also I'm going to donate my fee to the cancer charity so thats good for them too.

well, yesterday was the demo day at Aylmerton festival. I took along paintings I had done of the same subject but in all different media so we had work in watercolour, soft pastels, acrylic, oil pastels, oils, encaustic wax, and the one i did at the demo which was oil pastel. I had written a few words about materials for each type of work and talked a bit about these while I worked. I had done an underpainting in acrylics which is often how I start my oil pastels on canvas as I feel they blend better. Everybody seemd interested - or perhaps they were just being polite and I enjoyed the time there, despite my previous apprehensions.. you can see the works I took, its the series entitled "whats your name" and the oil pastel is the one I did at the demo.

May 11th the online art competition in aid of RarerCancersForum has gone live. Details are here on the forum http://forum.jeanniezelos.com/forum.asp?FORUM_ID=34 or simply cick on the "forum " link on top left of this page and look for topic headed "Rarer Cancers Forum competition" where you will find all info about the competition. please pass the word around - we need your help. Well the encaustics have arrived and I've been having a play. Not had much time yet as we've been away for a few days and I really need to catch up on the garden, lots of seeds to plant but hopefully this week I'm going to get time to experiment. I really want to have a go at some fayum style portaits. I've done quite a few imaginary head and shoulders portraits in acylics, oils and oil pastels and am thinking about the best way to proceed with the wax. Even when I'm not painting I'm thinking about ideas and planning how it will be best to start. I suppose all artists do this, we don't count sheep when we can't sleep but just plan the next picture. As a poor sleeper maybe that's why I'm so prolific.
